Appliance Transaction Modules explained

Enterprise appliance transaction modules, eATMs, are becoming a popular method of exchanging data between automation controllers and general-purpose computers. Craig Resnick, senior analyst for ARC Advisory Group, wrote a whitepaper that explains the uses, capabilities, benefits and latest advances in eATM technology.

The paper, commissioned by On-Line Development, provides an overview of the controller types and enterprise computer systems that can be connected with these appliances. It also provides an overview of the software utility that enables configuration of data between dissimilar devices without programming. Also discussed is the future of these appliances in helping manufacturers cost-effectively connect the plant floor to the enterprise.
