19 October 2017,HARTING demonstrates HARTING MICA (Modular Industry Computing Architecture) at Foshan Robotation Academy. MICA is a modular open platform and can be customised with custom hardware, software and interfaces. MICA is able to collect machines operation data, analyse and process them thus enables operation monitoring, data transmission for predictive maintenance management and permanent status monitoring. The HARTING MICA makes machines fit for digitalisation.
Foshan Robotation Academy was opened 12 October 2017. The opening of the third ‘Internet Plus’ Exhibition was held at the same time, theming on the "new interconnection, smart manufacturing and new future". Foshan city is located in Guangdong Province, has become one of the leading China industry centers. Guangdong manufacturing has a big step forward to smart manufacturing. Foshan will build a new page in the world of technology, Foshan intelligent production and global market. The academy aims to build a robot platform, dock "China manufacturing 2025" with "German Industrie 4.0", upgrade traditional manufacturing in the Pearl River Delta.
The Managing Director of HARTING Electric and HARTING Electronics, Mr. Uwe Graeff, emphasized, “HANNOVER MESSE initiates the idea of establishing Foshan Robotation Academy. It is the only oversea authorized institute bringing German Industrie 4.0 to China Manufacturing 2025. It will be become a key engine to drive transformation and upgrade of manufacturing in Southern China. This is why HARTING is a founding member and actively participates the activity of Foshan Robotation Academy.”

Dr. Ellen McMillan, General Manager of HARTING Greater China, stated out, “since 1950, HARTING created the standard of rectangular connector and now has become the industry standard. HARTING was originally a connector manufacturer, the first company launching modularised connector, and now we are becoming an integrated solution provider offering ethernet switches, RFID and MICA (Modular Industry Computing Architecture). Our management, R&D, and sales team have been investing tremendous effort in such transformation. HARTING has now new business thinking, business operation mode to cope with the requirement induced by Industrie 4.0. We want to create new value for our customers.”
“MICA platform can share know-how with the world, through its modular open platform, is easy to realise the interconnectivity, status monitoring, data acquisition and upload of data to the cloud. The concept of modular flexible interface, makes installation more convenient and increase production efficiency”, said Mr. Uwe Graeff at HARTING press conference.
Dr. Ellen McMillan is very optimistic about competition. She expressed, “we welcome competition. Competition speeds up our growth. As everyone know, HARTING pursues high quality and efficiency, from product design, production all the way to logistics. We advocate innovation as in fact the room to upgrade components is limited. What matters most is how we create better value and application for customers. HARTING has planned to organise and participate more training and seminars at the academy. Some of the academy partners are in fact also our partners or customers.”

Caption: MICA Energy Measurement System Infrastructure - MICA enables the Distributed energy management system with local processing, storage and visualisation capabilities.

Caption: HARTING RFID Sensor Application - HARTING RFID System enables the measurement of key component’s temperature within a rotation gearbox or a motor, which are difficult with traditional sensor due to the connecting wire & rotation/movement.

Caption: OEE Monitoring System by MICA and SALTANDPEPPER: This application captures all necessary mechanical data fully automatically and in real time and makes these available to further systems. This enables you to maintain and oversight of, for instance, overall equipment effectiveness, machine uptime, set-up/downtimes or units produced. By this, you can increase your production efficiency and improve processes.
